Do I need a permit for pool installation?
Yes, permits are required for pool installation (contact your local building inspector).

What are the code requirements in my area?
Each city has its own set of codes and they change often. Simply contact your city building inspector and ask for above ground pool codes. You need to know the following:
  Fencing requirements
  Placement from lot lines, buildings and utility lines

What kind of electric service will my pool need?
Our pools require a dedicated 120 Volt, 20 Amp service with a GFI (ground fault interrupt) and an outside disconnect (we have a list of qualified vendors to handle the electrical work).

When should I winterize my pool for the year?
Water temperatures should be in the mid to lower forties, run your filtration pump daily, and maintain the sanitizer levels until closed (call for specifics).

When should I open my pool in the spring?
As soon as the ice completely melts in the pool (call for specifics).

Can I install my own pool?
Many people install their own pools, however, pool installation is physically demanding and can be tricky (we can estimate a professional installation for you). If you decide to install your own pool we have installation videos and plenty of experience to coach you through the task (round pools are less difficult than oval).

What is the largest above ground pool?
Doughboy's largest pool is 21' x 41'.

Can we have a deep end in the pool?
Yes, Doughboy Expandable Liners allow for a deep end, and carry one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry, deep end for underwater swimming only (NO JUMPING OR DIVING).

Do solar covers help control temperature?
Yes, insulated solar covers will help maintain pool temperatures throughout the night, however, it's important to roll the solar cover edges back during the day, so air can reach the water. In late Summer, some of our customers keep the Solar Cover off at night, to actually lower the pool's water temperature.

What is a "Nature II" sanitization system?
A more cost-effective sanitizer to maintain a clean pool or spa, than by using a chemical-based system ie...typical bromine/chlorine system. (Copper silver ionization for bacteria killer).

How frequently should I check the pool chemistry?
Regular chlorine pools are best checked daily or when the following conditions exist:
  • Periods of Heavy usage
  • After a Heavy rain
  • Algae is present
  • Hazy water conditions
Check "Nature II" pools at least once per week-always following rain or heavy use.

Haze : Water that is not clear

pH = potential Hydrogen : a measure of how acidic or alkaline the water is

Residual or Free Chlorine : chlorine available to kill bacteria

Sanitizer : chemical to kill bacteria

TDS : The total dissolved solids, too much and your sanitizers will not operate properly

Total alkalinity (TA) : a measure of pH stability
